When a person consumes drugs, they are broken down by the liver, and some of the drug and/or its metabolites (breakdown products) are absorbed into the bloodstream.

Through the bloodstream, they then enter the hair follicle and become trapped in the innermost layer of the hair shaft. This makes it possible to detect them during analysis at our toxicology laboratory.

It is possible for drugs to remain detectable in a hair sample for up to 12 months, depending on the type/length of hair available for testing.

This peace-of-mind hair drug test will tell you which, if any, drugs were detected in the sample submitted.

For head hair including hair collected from a hairbrush, the overview period is likely to be 3-6 months.

For body hair and facial hair, the overview period is likely to be up to 12 months.

The report will not tell you when the drugs were consumed, nor will it give you a specific overview period.

You should submit ONLY ONE type of hair sample from the following:

• Head hair
• Body hair
• Facial hair
• Hair collected from a hairbrush

If you are submitting head hair, we will need a minimum of 200 hairs. When twisted this will be the approximate width of a pencil.  Ideally this should be cut from as close to the scalp as possible.

If you are submitting body hair, it can be taken from any part of the body and from different parts of the body.

When loosely clumped together, the body hair, facial hair or hairbrush hair sample should be at least the size of a golf ball.

Full instructions for collecting your samples will be included in your kit.

However, it is important to remember that the test will only detect any drugs within that sample; it will not be able to determine when the drugs were taken.

Yes, the person being tested must give their consent for the test to be performed. The test cannot be carried out without this consent.
