The Mayan calendar gender predictor is a fun way to guess the gender of an unborn baby that uses the mother’s age and the month of conception to predict what the baby’s gender will be.

Here, we explain how this method works and how accurate it is, as well as other methods that can be used to determine a baby’s gender.

What is the Mayan calendar gender predictor?

The Mayan calendar gender predictor is a method that is sometimes used to predict whether an unborn baby is likely to be a boy or girl.

If the mother’s age and month of conception are both odd numbers or both even numbers, the baby is predicted to be a girl.

If one number is even and the other is odd, the baby is predicted to be a boy.

For example, if a 30-year-old mother conceives a baby in May, the baby would be predicted to be a boy as 30 is an even number and May is month number 5, an odd number!

The Mayan calendar gender predictor is quick and easy to use, and a fun way to guess a baby’s gender. However, there is no scientific proof that this method works when it comes to accurately predicting a baby’s sex before birth.

How accurate is the Mayan calendar gender predictor?

There is no scientific merit to prove that the Mayan calendar gender predictor is accurate.

The predictor is not a scientific tool and can only be used as a fun way to guess the gender of an unborn baby.

As you will either be having a baby boy or a baby girl, any method used to predict the baby’s gender (that doesn’t use a scientific technique) will only be accurate around 50% of the time. Essentially, it is like flipping a coin!

Should I use the Mayan calendar gender predictor?

The Mayan calendar gender predictor is a fun way to guess the gender of your baby, but the results should not be relied upon.

As the dates used for this method are based on the mother’s age and the month of conception, the test can be carried out at any point during the pregnancy and the results will stay the same – though they may not be correct.

How can I find out my baby’s gender for certain?

To accurately determine the sex of an unborn baby, the best option is to carry out a baby gender blood test, such as the test we offer at AlphaBiolabs.

An AlphaBiolabs Baby Gender Test requires a blood sample from the mother, which must be collected when mum is at least 6 weeks pregnant, to ensure any Y chromosome present in the blood is at a detectable level.

We provide four options for sample collection for your baby gender test. Whichever sample collection option you choose, you’ll receive your results in 3-4 business days after we receive your blood sample at our laboratory:

  • Self-collect at home with TinyTAP
Collect your blood sample in the comfort of your own home, with our easy-to-use, pain-free TinyTAP device. Simply press the device against your arm to collect your sample – ideal for people who are needle-phobic, with no clinical appointments required.
AlphaBiolabs is the ONLY laboratory in Ireland to offer this device for blood sample collection.
  • Organise your own blood sample collection
Arrange your own blood sample collection with a trained medical professional (e.g. doctor, nurse, phlebotomist). Your test kit includes clear guidance to ensure the sample is taken correctly.
  • Walk-in centre sample collection
Book a blood draw with an AlphaBiolabs sample collector at one of our walk-in centres.
Simply order your test and a member of our team will contact you to arrange your blood draw.
  • Home visit sample collection
Book a blood draw with an AlphaBiolabs sample collector at home or another convenient location of your choice.
Simply order your test and a member of our team will contact you to arrange your blood draw

Other methods of determining your baby’s gender are available. However, none of these offer results from as early as 6 weeks into pregnancy, or the ability to collect your own blood sample at home. Additionally, some of these methods (e.g. chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis) carry a small risk of miscarriage and are only available to women who are at high risk of having a baby with a genetic or chromosomal abnormality.
