The daughter of notorious US serial killer Michael ‘Bear’ Carson has offered her DNA to gardai in a bid to help solve cold case murders.

Michael Carson and his second wife Suzan were convicted in 1984 of three brutal murders in Northern California. However, they are also suspects in multiple other murders both in the USA and Europe in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Jenn Carson, whose father was also known as the ‘San Francisco Witch Killer’, said that the pair visited Ireland in 1978 and 1979. She hopes DNA tests may help solve cold case murders in Ireland during that period.

“I know that you have four cold cases in Ireland within the time period and one of them is a little bit similar to the modus operandi so I would be glad to give my DNA to your police in Ireland or other European or US forces”, said Ms Carson.

It would appear that Dave Fanning was a caring, stay-at-home father to Ms Carson until he met Suzan. Then began an obsessive relationship involving extremist beliefs and illicit drug use. Ms Carson believes that the everyday use of LSD may have caused some brain damage.

“I truly believe both people had psychopathic tendencies where they did not feel empathy and they did not feel remorse”, she said.

The pair were eventually arrested in 1983 and both were sentenced to 75 years to life behind bars. Ms Carson now works with the children of prisoners, helping them cope with the loss of a parent.
